Pass It On

My Causes

i think it’s important to give back some of what I receive so I was really happy to join B1G1 a few years ago and have given a percentage of specific purchases to various causes.

There are so many worthy causes locally and around the world, I have been delighted to send various boxes of helpful items down to a group of therapists in London helping with people involved in Grenfell and on a much lighter note, often support local charities with prizes for raffles etc.

Looking through educating children is an important cause for me as is food and water.

Giving back is something that has been with me throughout my life as even from my very first years in primary school, on a Friday, we all brought a sixpence (Yes i am that old) and then quite soon after, we brought in a 5p. These were all collected and sent to missions in Africa and it was explained to us that there were people including children, in the world who were much poorer then us and far more in need. Ireland in the 70’s wasn’t affluent and quite a few children in my class probably didn’t have very much, but we were still encouraged to think about those people far away who didn’t have a roof or walls to protect them from the weather, they didn’t have a cooker to cook on or a kitchen to keep their food in etc. So we all learned early on to act if we could and give.

B1G1’s initiative is as follows,

100% of the money given goes to the causes. B1G1 give companies the opportunity to pay an admin fee when joining and then that money goes to the admin of the various charities. Therefore the money that comes from you via your treatments or your purchases goes straight to the cause and all of it is used. This was a particular reason that I liked this way of giving as I have worked for charities in the past and know that a lot of money can get used up in the administration.

The initiative was originally called Buy 1 Give 1, backed by the idea that companies would make a giving impact with each designated business transaction. Today, the BIG1 initiative has more than 2,100 businesses from around the world—each making significant impacts every day. B1G1 is a social enterprise and non-profit organization with a mission to create a world full ofgiving. Unlike conventional giving models, B1G1 helps small- and medium-sized businesses achieve more social impact by embedding giving activities into everyday business operations and creating unique giving stories.
