Action Against Alzheimer's Workshop

Programme Details

The programme is aimed at those who want to reduce their risk of developing Alzheimer’s Disease and those who wanto to optimize their brain and cognitive health.

 The information and handouts provided make it a self-help diet and lifestyle programme. Alzheimer’s Disease starts 10, 20 or even 30 years before diagnosis so making changes now and starting a healthier diet and lifestyle is important.

 Weekly workshops details

Workshop 1, 2 and 3 – MIND - Making Increased Nutritious Diet choices.

Focus on healthy nutritious choices from a wide variety of foods. These weeks help you understand the effects of different foods on brain health both positive and negative. From what foods do we get our nutrients, eating foods in season, the best ways of cooking and storing foods and how we can get the nutrients we need. Looking in more detail at carbohydrates, fats, nutrient-dense foods and how you can implement dietary changes to optimise your cognitive health.

 

Workshop 4 – Gut health – Gut Brain Connection

This workshop helps to understand the significance of gut health and why it is so important to have a good gut/brain connection. I will show you how you can help your gut work in a healthy relationship with your brain. Your whole body achieves better health when the recommended changed are implemented.

Workshop 5 – Stress Reduction

The effects of stress can have adverse effects on your body. Learning what your personal triggers are can be the first step to manage your stress in a different way – this can help minimize the effects on your body and especially your brain health.

 Workshop 6 – Sleep Benefits

There are 5 stages of sleep so understanding what those levels are will help identify what quality of sleep you currently experience. Hormones that affect our sleep pattern are released and we look at how you can improve levels within your body. Understanding the importance of a good night’s sleep is imperative to keep our brains healthy. A number of ways to improve sleep quality will be recommended.

 Workshop 7 – Exercise

Physical Activity and movement has a fabulous effect on cognitive function. It helps to increase the “plasticity” of the brain and to build new neurons in the brain. We will look at the best exercise options and help your to implement a sustainable exercise programme for your body’s ability.

Workshop 8 – Brain Training

This workshop looks at the various ways you can stimulate the various parts of your brain which also has a positive effect on the “plasticity” of your brain. There will be a little segment of this in each week but a bigger emphasis will be on it today as to what brain training exercise would be the best for you. There will also be time for a review of the 8 weeks.

This is the Foundation Course in Systematic Kinesiology, you can use the tools and techniques for yourself and with friends and family.  If you already are a practitioner in another modality and are currently insured, then you can add this to your skill set.

This course in it's entirety is requred to be completed in full along with the homework before you can progress onto do the 12 module Diploma

Back, Neck & Shoulder Pain

Do you suffer with Backache, Neck Pain or Sore Restricted Shoulders?  Do you feel stiff when you move, is pain accompanying your every step?  Does it disturb your sleep?  Is your range of movement or motion limited

These are all common problems with back and neck ache and can often be much reduced or eliminated with the help of Clinical Massage and the use of heat using Hot Stones.  Specific techniques and protocols are done to help with the pain.

  • Imagine how great it would be to get up from a sitting position without pain?
  • be able to walk easily?
  • to stretch up to get something down from a high shelf?

The main requirement is that the sessions are fairly close together, the first two work best when a week apart and the the third and fourth may still be required to be weekly or may be stretched to a fortnight depending on how your muscles and tissue feel.

Foot, Leg & Knee Pain

Stiff Joints in the legs such as ankles and knees can make walking quite painful and difficult.  Clients are always amazed how relaxing a foot massage is once they have got over the thought of it might tickle. It doesn't!

Once I have finished with the feet, and let's be honest, feet have a lot to do in carrying our body's around on a daily basis so a little TLC once in a while doesn't go amiss.  However, once I finish with the feet, it is amazing how many people hold quite a lot of tension in their calf muscles.  When these become tight then pain is the end result.  You may suffer with cramp which can create it's own tension. 

This massage is great for anyone but especailly good for people who are on their feet a lot during the day.  Dancers, Teachers, Shop Workers, Builders and if your hobbies also include you using your legs this can really help with those niggling injuries that just won't go away.

If the pain you feel is from tension or stress, then the heat from the hot stones helps to melt it away and the slow work with the myofascial techniques is incredible.  Trigger point work may be a little harsh if it's stress related, and that is one of the reasons it's good to come and see a professional.  Gaining an overall picture of your life and activities gives me the guidelines to what techniques and protocols will be best suited to you.
