The programme is aimed at those who want to reduce their risk of developing Alzheimer’s Disease and those who wanto to optimize their brain and cognitive health.
The information and handouts provided make it a self-help diet and lifestyle programme. Alzheimer’s Disease starts 10, 20 or even 30 years before diagnosis so making changes now and starting a healthier diet and lifestyle is important.
Weekly workshops details
Workshop 1, 2 and 3 – MIND - Making Increased Nutritious Diet choices.
Focus on healthy nutritious choices from a wide variety of foods. These weeks help you understand the effects of different foods on brain health both positive and negative. From what foods do we get our nutrients, eating foods in season, the best ways of cooking and storing foods and how we can get the nutrients we need. Looking in more detail at carbohydrates, fats, nutrient-dense foods and how you can implement dietary changes to optimise your cognitive health.
Workshop 4 – Gut health – Gut Brain Connection
This workshop helps to understand the significance of gut health and why it is so important to have a good gut/brain connection. I will show you how you can help your gut work in a healthy relationship with your brain. Your whole body achieves better health when the recommended changed are implemented.
Workshop 5 – Stress Reduction
The effects of stress can have adverse effects on your body. Learning what your personal triggers are can be the first step to manage your stress in a different way – this can help minimize the effects on your body and especially your brain health.
Workshop 6 – Sleep Benefits
There are 5 stages of sleep so understanding what those levels are will help identify what quality of sleep you currently experience. Hormones that affect our sleep pattern are released and we look at how you can improve levels within your body. Understanding the importance of a good night’s sleep is imperative to keep our brains healthy. A number of ways to improve sleep quality will be recommended.
Workshop 7 – Exercise
Physical Activity and movement has a fabulous effect on cognitive function. It helps to increase the “plasticity” of the brain and to build new neurons in the brain. We will look at the best exercise options and help your to implement a sustainable exercise programme for your body’s ability.
Workshop 8 – Brain Training
This workshop looks at the various ways you can stimulate the various parts of your brain which also has a positive effect on the “plasticity” of your brain. There will be a little segment of this in each week but a bigger emphasis will be on it today as to what brain training exercise would be the best for you. There will also be time for a review of the 8 weeks.
